2010 Cardrona Valley View Development

New for 2010 is the first phase of the Valley View Development. The first phase is the lift installation which will bring the total number of chairs to 4 which is the most in the South Island. It will also increase the vertical drop to 600m and increase the terrain to 345 hectares. Cardrona will be the largest Ski Area in the Queenstown region and second largest in the Southern Lakes. In 2011 the development will be completed with the installation of snowmaking to ensure top to bottom skiing throughout winter.

The new Valley View is going to increase the amount of intermediate and advanced terrain. But what Cardrona is really known for is its wide open slopes that are fantastic for beginners and intermediates. The majority of the terrain on offer is wide open and fun!

2008 Cardrona Developments

New Chairlift, Snowmaking and Cafe at Captain's Basin, New Triple Jump in the Advanced Terrain Park!
Cardrona has purchased a high speed detachable quad chairlift for the Captain's Basin. The new Poma chairlift will be ready to ride at the start of the 2008 season.

The Captains Express chairlift's speed will be two and a half times quicker than the existing quad with a journey only taking 3.5 minutes versus the existing 9 minutes. Assuming no queue, a person who skied 11 runs at Captains Basin would ski them one hour faster due to faster chairlifts.

Snowmaking is also being expanded into the Captain's Basin. Eleven new snow guns in addition to the thirteen guns in the Main Basin will supplement Cardrona's renowned natural snow base. It will give skiers and snowboarders peace of mind for a good start early in the season.

A new expanded pizzeria is also being built in the Captain's Basin. It will be situated in the same location as the existing pizzeria but will have over double the number of seats (240) and toilets (15).

Three new jumps have been built in the advanced terrain park. These jumps are of 11m, 14m and 17m in length, and have been built in a safer "true table" design with little or no "step down". These are the first "true table" jumps in New Zealand, and will result in snowboarders and skiers learning tricks more quickly, more safely and more spectacularly due to the confidence they inspire.

A new half pipe has been will also be open in 2008 ready for the FIS World Cup half pipe event in September. This is built to the new 22ft (7m) Vancouver 2010 Olympic standard and will be the only one of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.
